WHAT IF YOU COULDN'T GO TO SCHOOL?
School prepares you for what you will become when you are an
adult. School offers you the chance to learn about so many different things; from science and art to history and
math.
School is also a place where you learn to build relationships and
self-esteem through your accomplishments and friendships. Many children around the world will never get that
chance.
Sometimes children can't go to school because they live
too far out in a rural area or they have no transportation to get to school.
Many schools in poorer countries, sometimes called developing
countries, charge fees to attend school. Many families can't afford to pay these fees and so the kids can't go to school.
Sometimes children have to stay home and help their parents work
the land or worse; stay home and care for their parents who are dying from preventable diseases.
If you could not go to school imagine what would happen to you.
What would happen when you grow up? You probably
wouldn't know how to read or write or maybe even make change at the grocery store.
Your future would be very different if you could not go to school.
How would you take care of yourself?
For more than 115 million children in the world these are questions
that they worry about because they can't go to school.
More than 115 million children will never have the chance
to become a doctor, a teacher, an airplane pilot or scientist.
